The Wolf Log Home: Cross Gable Fusion

At Real Log Homes, are designers our happy to work with clients to create the perfect home just for them. This project in Mountain Home, Arkansas shows how our designers were able to merge the elements of two similar designs to create an impressive home on a manageable scale.

The Wolf home draws inspiration from both the Woodland and Richmond floor plans. Both of these designs are similar cross gable houses, but the Richmond is about 600 square feet larger due to its greater living space and upstairs loft that the Woodland lacks. The Wolf plan sits neatly between these two designs with 2091 square feet of space, split between a 1664 square foot main level and 427 square foot loft.

​From the outside, the impressive truss structure and roof sheltering the gabled porch are distinct trademarks of the Woodland plan. The front of the Woodland is flat, however, while the Wolf’s great room is bumped out, as in the Richmond. The Wolf also features a flared roof that it draws from the Richmond plan. While skylights are a relatively easy addition to any plan, the skylights on the Wolf were also inspired by the Richmond.

​Stepping inside, the great room offers plenty of room for entertaining. The stairwell to the loft above divides the great room from the kitchen and dining space without isolating the spaces from one another, while a corner woodstove makes for warm winter nights. The kitchen has ample space and a functional U-shaped layout, while the large dining room has access to the rear deck for outdoor living.

​There are two wings to the house, and each one takes its inspiration from a different plan. The right wing houses the living quarters and is a modified version of the Richmond layout. In the Richmond plan, this wing housed a master suite with attached office. In the Wolf plan the office has been removed and replaced with a guest bedroom. The Wolf also has more space in this wing, so the guest bedroom has its own en suite bathroom while the master bath has enough space for a dual vanity and separate shower and tub.

The other wing of the house is distinctly from the Woodland plan. Its primary feature is the spacious 709 square foot garage, which can accommodate two cars plus workspace. This wing also houses the utility space, so the washer and dryer are conveniently located next to the kitchen.
