The HoliMont: A Perfect Winter or All-Season Real Log Home

Last January, we featured the Littleton floor plan and highlighted its use as a grand ski lodge. While the Littleton is a fine home, at 3773 square feet it may be a bit large for a smaller family. If you are looking for a more average sized log home ski lodge, then the HoliMont plan may be just for you. Even if your log home ambitions don’t include winter sports, this charming 2576 square foot plan has a perfect design for an “aging in place” retirement home. The front entrance to the HoliMont is off of a half-length porch. Entering the house leads you directly to the kitchen. At 340 square feet, the kitchen is supremely usable with wide passageways between the counter and island. The main layout is in an L-shape, with the island housing the range. The island can support bar stool dining, and there is also space for a table near windows with mountain views.

Beyond the kitchen lies an equal sized great room. The great room has a cathedral-ceiling, and the tallest section of the wall is dominated by the fireplace. While many great rooms have a large bank of windows on the cathedral wall, this home instead has an attached sunroom. The sunroom also has a large fireplace sharing a chimney with the great room. Furthermore, the sunroom features windows filling all three of its exterior walls. This makes the sunroom into a great entertaining space with stupendous views, while the great room retains a more private feel for evening entertaining and living. A door from the sunroom leads to the exterior deck.

Just back inside the great room, a door leads to a mudroom with closet space and laundry facilities, as well as another door to the rear deck. This back mudroom entry is also conveniently located near the garage making it perfect for removing and leaving ski and other sports related gear without traipsing it through the house. A short hallway between the great room and kitchen leads to the remainder of the first floor. One door leads to the first floor lavatory, while the other leads to the master suite. The master suite features a large walk-in closet that provides great accessibility. Furthermore, the master bathroom features a no-step walk-in shower that makes ingress and egress a breeze.

A stairwell near the kitchen leads upstairs to the upper floor. Here, you arrive on a small loft space overlooking the great room. One guest bedroom is sited over the kitchen, while another is sited over the master bedroom. Another bathroom completes the upstairs.
