Getting Your Log Home Ready for Thanksgiving

The week of Thanksgiving is finally here. Granted, we are partial, but we simply can’t think of a better way to celebrate such a warm, classic American holiday, than in a Real Log Home®. Over the years we’ve had the great honor of building thousands of log homes for wonderful families across the country, and for that we are truly thankful. So, we’d like to share with you some fun and different ways to decorate your log home for Thanksgiving – as well as some entertaining tips and recipes.

First, this log home is a great lesson in how to blend the look of old and new. The logs on the ceiling and in the posts are hand-scraped and unfinished, which gives the wood a very aged look. The wood flooring, however, is fresh and clean looking. The large table, which has a nice contrast with its dark finish, is an old-style trestle table. The ladder-back chairs have a sleek clean look while still embracing the warm look of antique furniture. In contrast the light fixture and metal shelving are sleek modern pieces. Even the candle holders and glassware add to the contrast with their own modern flair. All in all, this look works very well and would be an inviting place to sit down for some turkey.

This long farm table is a perfect selection for hosting big dinner gatherings like Thanksgiving. The white legs give the table a fresh clean look, while the slight distressing makes it feel less formal and adds character. The hanging light fixture runs parallel to the table adding more light along its length. Neutral napkins in a warm dove gray are a nice choice for a Thanksgiving table setting, and they are neutral enough to be used year-round.

This dining room also has a farm table with white legs, but this is a slightly more formal finish. The colonial style, black Windsor dining chairs provide a nice contrast. The glass pedestal fruit bowl is an elegant choice for the table. The ceiling joists are square logs, which adds to the clean, formal look of this dining room.

Finally, this dining table has the great benefit of being adjustable. Using leaves, the table can be lengthened for special events like Thanksgiving, and then converted back to a smaller size for everyday use. That functionality can make getting ready for big family gatherings much less stressful – though you will need a place to store extra chairs when not in use. We just love the use of sunflowers in Thanksgiving arrangements.
