At Real Log Homes, our floor plans start in size with the cozy 432-square-foot Liberty cabin. However, when one family was looking to build a log home near Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, a much larger home was in order. True to its name, the Grand Isle Floor plan, with some modifications, was the perfect match for the grandeur of this locale. At 3256 square feet, plus an additional 2256 square feet of finished basement in this build, the Grand Isle provides all the space needed for a large family. Let’s step inside and see what this wonderful Real Log home has to offer.

Entering through the main entrance, a closet and powder room are conveniently located to the right. On our left, we find a breakfast table for when a more relaxed morning meal is in order than one would find dining at the kitchen bar seating. The stairwell provides a convenient division between the great room and the kitchen and dining areas.
The kitchen provides ample room for food preparation and casual dining. The large island features both bar seating and a secondary sink to assist with making large meals. The main sink has a wide window, and a double oven in the corner provides unrivaled convenience. Next to the ovens, the commercial range is set in a brick arch, recalling the brick ovens of time past. Off of the kitchen is a door to the mudroom, which combines storage and laundry facilities. The nearby dining space is expansive, with more than enough room for a table to seat a party of twelve. The posts in this space feature a unique, curved trunk profile.

Proceeding back to the center of the house, the great room maintains a magnificence befitting the home and its setting. A stone fireplace anchors the room and ties in with the exterior stone foundation details. The vaulted ceilings provide the perfect space to showcase a truly grand chandelier, be it iron or antler. Beyond the great room lies the master bedroom suite. The bedroom is spacious, and the en suite features room for a double vanity, separate shower, and Jacuzzi tub, and extensive walk-in closet.

The stairs lead up to a loft space, which provides flexible space overlooking the great room with an additional two large closets for storage. Flanking the loft on either side are two large guest bedrooms, each with ample closet space. In the floor plan, only one bathroom is shown on this level, but each bedroom can be designed with its own bath if desired. In this variation of the Grand Isle, the home is built on a slope and features a walk-out basement. This adds 2256 square feet of finished space, including an additional two bedrooms. With over 5500 square feet of living space, this Real Log Home is a perfect complement to any of our country’s grand outdoor spaces.
